Particularly in the healthcare field, secure encryption and transmission of information such as sensitive patient data is a sine qua non.
More than other sectors, the healthcare field has got to accelerate its processes with the help of electronic data exchange.
One of the biggest projects in this area is the health professional card (HPC), for which 17 German medical associations will register 400,000 doctors and which correspondingly will be issued to an additional two million members of the allied health professions (pharmacists, psychotherapists, nursing staff, etc.). It is the precursor to the electronic health card, which will be issued to some 80 million insured people in Germany. Without this card there can be no electronic prescriptions and no access to insurance data.
TC TrustCenter already conducted a successful pilot phase in this area in conjunction with the state medical association of Saxony in 2002/2003. Another joint pilot project in the HPC card area is being planned for 2006.
